The City of New Bedford Office of Tourism and Marketing promotes
the city's historical destinations, cultural attractions and
events in partnership with those organizations and the New
Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. The office also
operates the Waterfront Visitor Center, at the city's historic
Wharfinger Building, once the port's fish auction house for New
Bedford's famed commercial fishing fleet. The Waterfront Visitor
Center is located on Fisherman's Wharf (old City Pier #3) in the
heart of New Bedford's working waterfront.
Under the direction of Mayor Scott W. Lang, the office
contributes to the economic development by working in the
following areas:
- Destination advertising for print & electronic media
- General attraction brochures production and distribution
- Tradeshow & Conference participation promoting the city
- Customized information packets for group tour, business
inquires, and conferences
- City tourism website content
- Direct mail advertising and response
- Advertising specialties (i.e. postcards, bumper stickers,
etc.)
- Toll-free Information line (800-508-5353)
- Events & Directions to New Bedford
- Special events programming at the Waterfront Visitor Center
- School group tours of City Hall and certain other historical
city buildings
- Cruise ship reception/assistance
- Group tour marketing and reception assistance
- Semiannual Calendar of Events publication and distribution
