New Bedford's SouthCoast Control Engineering (SCCE)
expands and announces second company
SouthCoast Machineworks is a profitable addition to
city’s rising manufacturing industry
NEW
BEDFORD, Mass. - - SouthCoast Control Engineering, Inc.,
(www.scceinc.com) announces the successful integration
of a second company, SouthCoast Machineworks, LLC, into
its Nash Pond Business Park design and manufacturing
facility. Established in September 2007, SouthCoast
Machineworks fabricates machine parts for various
industries in Southeastern Mass. and Rhode Island.
Machineworks has already achieved over half a million
dollars in sales. Working with stainless steel, mild
steel, and aluminum, it outputs pieces for general
machinery, small assembly, and tight-tolerance assembly
and also fulfills custom welding orders.
The addition of Machineworks to SCCE's facility
increased the utilized Nash Pond commercial space from
approximately 7,000 to 15,000 square feet.
New Bedford native and company President Scott Gomes
established SCCE to produce a wide range of automation,
assembly, orientation, and case-packing equipment for
national and international clients. In addition to
providing machine parts for customers, small or large,
Machineworks also fabricates parts for SCCE as needed.
"The new company gives SCCE more control over quality
and scheduling," points out Gomes.
President Gomes and Vice President Joe Bristol,
electrical and mechanical engineers respectively, ensure
that SCCE is engineering driven. In turn, this expertise
gives Machineworks a vital competitive edge. "Our
engineering staff can develop a part or assembly using
3D solid modeling or 2D CAD in addition to
re-manufacturing existing parts," Gomes says. "SCCE also
complements Machineworks with its development and
assembly capabilities."
Six employees staff Machineworks, whose floor space
includes a 10-tool machining center, C&C turning center,
manual milling machines, manual lathes, welding station,
and paint booth. Plans for purchasing additional
equipment are already underway.
SouthCoast Control Engineering was founded in 2000 by
President Scott Gomes, SouthCoast Control Engineering (SCCE).
The company provides national and international
customers with equipment for the parts-assembly,
automation, orientation, and case-packing industries. It
specializes in the design and manufacture of electrical
control panels and systems, equipment to handle and
assemble highly decorated products, and special
machinery to accommodate any manufacturing need.
In 2007, President Scott Gomes and Vice President Joe
Bristol formed a second company, SouthCoast Machineworks,
LLC, which specializes in custom welding and part
fabrication.
