Sisters open JuiceBox downtown
NEW BEDFORD — Officials cut the ribbon on another
"hip," lifestyle-oriented business in the downtown
business district Monday, marking the opening of The
JuiceBox at 285 Union St. operated by sisters Natasha
and Jessica Suarez.
Jessica Suarez, who is from New Bedford but also lived
in San Diego, said she and her sister looked for a
location for more than a year before settling on the
storefront in the R.D. Wroble Building at the corner of
Union and Eighth streets — diagonally across from the
newly opened state Registry of Motor Vehicles office.
Eric Pope, a member of the School Committee, praised the
sisters, who are family friends. Mr. Pope called The
JuiceBox an example of "innovative ideas" and part of a
growing business community in the downtown business
district.
Kathy Dehner, Ward 3 city councilor, said as a
businesswoman she is always excited by seeing more
downtown activity and especially pleased to see "young
people involved in building New Bedford."
Mayor Scott W. Lang, who helped cut the opening ribbon,
said The JuiceBox was a "thoroughly modern" business.
"It is one of the little places you can come to, have a
drink, hook in your laptop — it's a natural," Mayor Lang
said. "All these little businesses make up a great part
of our city," Mayor Lang said, and together the downtown
businesses are serving as a catalyst for the area's
revival. About 30 people gathered at the storefront for
the ribbon cutting.
The JuiceBox menu includes "berry smoothies," a kid's
menu, coffee-based drinks and bagels and cheeses.
