Cape Cod Baseball League returns to New Bedford

New Bedford, Massachusetts - Mayor Scott W. Lang’s office has announced the City of New Bedford will welcome the return of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) this summer season as league teams will play two regular season games at Paul Walsh Field located in the New Bedford High School Athletic Field Complex. The Orleans Cardinals will play the Wareham Gatemen in the first game on Monday, June 16th, 2008 at 6:30PM and the Wareham Gatemen will face the Bourne Braves at the second game scheduled for Friday, July 11th, at 7:00PM.  Economic development partnership helps city workers reach jobs on the Vineyard

Seasonal workers for Island hotel and restaurant businesses could be arriving by ferry from New Bedford through an organized program within the next few weeks.
And a second proposed program, which would tap federal grant money, could be flying workers from New Bedford to the Island next summer, said Nancy Gardella, executive director of the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce.

 City waterfront economy to gain from possible state allocation

NEW BEDFORD — State funding to provide a $25 million face-lift to transform the downtown waterfront around State Pier into a tourist-friendly destination was proposed Wednesday by Sen. Mark C. W. Montigny.

Attractions could include restaurants, a fish market, public recreation and other facilities.

BOSTON -- Governor Deval Patrick today announced the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has approved the state’s plan to distribute $13.4 million in federal disaster relief to the Commonwealth’s struggling commercial groundfish fleet – delivering aid to fishermen harmed by federal restrictions on groundfish harvesting by the end of August.
